Josh Hyde - Writer/Director

Hyde was born to a Filipino immigrant mother and American father in St. Louis, Missouri.  The second of three children, Hyde naturally excelled in foreign language and visual arts.  After graduating from Southern Illinois University in 2003 with a degree in Cinema and Photography, Hyde left the U.S. for Cuzco, Peru, where he directed a documentary, Despacho, which examines the cultural exchange between western medicine and indigenous Peruvian shamanistic techniques. Upon his return, Hyde moved to Chicago and interned with the award-winning documentary production house, Kartemquin Films.  In 2004 Hyde entered the MFA program at Ohio University during which time he worked closely under acclaimed Croatian director/producer, Rajko Grlic (Border Post, Josephine, Caruga). In the summer of 2004, Hyde returned to Cuzco to shoot the short film version of Postales, entitled Chicle, which played at over 50 festivals worldwide (Berlin Int’l, Tribeca Int’l), winning at the Hamptons Int’l, Chicago Int’l and Black Maria.  In 2006, the short was endorsed by the Korean National Film Archive to teach children about cultural fusion and globalization.

Hyde lives in the mountains of Colorado where he works as a freelance writer/director/editor.
